Make-over day

New Desks in Room 19

All empty, ready for the new look.

Forget about desks, in Room 19 we've got beanbags and cushions as desks with all colourful coffee tables; we've got jigsaw puzzles on the desks, we've also got splats, hearts, circles and stars and we also have new buckets!

Desks find new home.

J-Rock

Our class will be choreographing a dance to 'We didn't start the fire' by Billy Joel, for our J-Rock performance. Our message is that it is important to read to develop our minds, as this will help us on our road to success.

Each person in the class will take a person or an event from the song (we will just use the first 2 minutes of the song). We will read and view video clips to learn about this person or event. We will also dress up to look like this person. Our outfits need to be comfortable to dance in and represent our person or event. Everyone knows their role, please talk about a possible outfit at home, see what you can put together and come back to school with requests for anything you might need help obtaining.

After Easter we will be very busy putting our dance together and creating props (giant books).

Great Purple Participation!

A big thanks to all those who took part in Purple Cupcake Day today. A special thanks to Leni, whose enthusiasm and commitment helped to make it all happen. The Student Council raised $786  ... wow!! Find out more about what this money will achieve, visit Purple Cake Day.

Throw out the desks!

Miss D and Room 19 have decided to 'throw out the all the desks' and replace them with substitutes. Room 19 is looking forward to this! The three new ways are:
*A bean bag with a plank on your knees,
*A small coffee table or
*A trapezoid table.
Miss D and the class also need as much help as they can get! We need people who can donate fabric and sew.

We're trying out the coffee tables. They're getting very popular!

The beep test

ROOM 19, THE BEEP TEST.

Room 19 has done a test called the beep test, a test of fitness that places students at their ability level by running back and forth in time to a beep. The highest score in Room 19 was 8.6 by Finn Allan. In week 12 this term we are going to do it again after all of the exercise this term, to hopefully improve our scores.

Exploring the benefits of exercise...

As we continue to look at ways to 'sharpen the saw', we have been learning about the benefits of exercise and how hard we need to be exercising. On Monday we learnt how to find and calculate our heart rate and what our target heart rate should be for exercise, (220 - age) X 60 to 80%. We then headed outside to explore how different exercises affected our heart rate. We discovered that after 1 minute of doing burpees, most of use hit the upper level of our target heart rate!

One minute is a long time when you are doing burpees!

Tasty Science

At Life Education, we learnt about the importance of water in our diet. We decided to find out how much water there was in raw fruit and vegetables. We talked about what a fair test was; we had to make sure that what we did for one fruit or vegetable, we did for all of them.

Interpreting the scales was one of many skills we worked on.
Check back in a couple to days to view our results. We are also keen to create tasty new juice recipes, (do you have a favourite combination?)... will keep you posted.
