Over the next two weeks we are going to look into the different ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. The students have many great ideas already and we are going to research to find more. Today we discovered there is debate surrounding whether a real Christmas tree or an artificial one is better for our planet. Tomorrow we will select names out of a hat for Sustainable Secret Santa. Students are encouraged to make something or find an environmentally friendly gift, that shows thought has been given to reducing our Christmas carbon footprint.

An artificial tree is the best for the environment, as you not cutting down a real tree thats helping the environment by soaking up the co2 in the atmosphere. :)

Santa looks really cool and what a wonderful idea because we use artifical christmas tree at home

I wonder whether extra trees, additional to those that would otherwise exist, are planted to be used as Christmas trees??? Would the plots of land out by the airport, used by people to grow Christmas trees, be covered in trees if they weren't being used for this purpose??? Possibly lettuces instead or maybe just grass???
I am a fan of the real Christmas tree and hope that, rather than causing there to be less trees in existence, my support of this tradition promotes increased planting!
