Over the past three weeks we have been creating cartoon artwork of ourselves, to show what makes us unique.
Firstly we designed cartoon bodies, of ourselves doing something we loved. Next we created a background to compliment the activity we were doing. Then we brainstormed words that other people would use to describe us, and used these words to create a frame. Finally we put it all together, building our bodies and heads up to create a 3D effect.
Our classroom is starting to look pretty cool with the addition of these lovely works of art.
We are an enthusiastic bunch of Year 7 & 8 learners at Beckenham School. Read on to see what we get up to in Room 19.

Sharpening The Saw
We have started talking about what we need to do to 'Sharpen our Saws' so that we can perform at our very best. Yesterday we briefly spoke about the benefits of exercise on achievement and focus. We will explore this more during the term. The diagram below illustrates this. Interpret the colours as you would a weather map, with red being the good stuff!
Make sure you have suitable shoes for exercise at school each day! How do you find exercise impacts your life? Please leave a comment (parents and children).

Underway for 2013
We have had a fabulous start to the year in Room 19. What a great group of learners! This week we have been making bonus coupons on the computer, learning how to create block letters in boxes, writing some holiday poetry, creating 3D cartoons of ourselves, and finding out about each other. We've done a few more things too!
Thanks for all of the fabulous letters, I am enjoying reading about you all.

Top Team
What a fabulous afternoon everyone has had at Top Team. They'll be tired tonight! Great teamwork, persistence and an apparent love of water from Room 19ers...

What we got up to today...
Well done to everyone who competed at Zone Athletics today. Even if your placing was not quite what you wished for, giving it your best shot was the most important thing. Congratulations if you were one of the 32 people who qualified for the Canterbury Tournament to be held in Ashburton on Wednesday December 5th.
Those of us who remained at school worked on a cartoon enlargement project, using a grid. Precision and accuracy lead to impressive results for many.

One of the Family
Yesterday the RSPCA and Norm Hewitt brought their One of the Family presentation to school. The presentation shared Norm's journey through life and how he overcame adversity when he was young to achieve success. There was a strong message of breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Along the way we laughed, we cried and we laughed some more ... for 90 minutes! He even managed to teach Mr Rodger and Mrs Inwood some snazzy dance moves! Check them out on You Tube.
