Artwork in progress...

As part of our art unit, looking at how we can be arty with words, we have been looking at Cecilia Russell's work. She created an entire scene using block lettering. We are creating our own pieces, using words of our choice.

These are just a small sample of the artwork being designed ... next step colour.

So Coordinated

I've been very impressed with the physical skills of Room 19. By applying a proactive attitude, which includes great focus, skipping skills are developing fabulously. Today we mastered 'over the moon' jumping, so we can enter the rope no matter which way it is spinning. Next challenge will be the triangle skip. Keep posted.

Ready to save lives.

Today, by surprise, we had first aid training. Each child has been set a challenge to put an adult into the recovery position at home. Once your child has done this, leave a comment on this blog or send a note to school and they will be given their first aid certificate.

Starting with the Man in the Mirror

Today we talked about how our actions and attitude have the defining effect on the direction we take in life and what we get out of experiences. We put this big idea into action by having a go at the 'Cirlce Sit'. Our positive, can-do attitude was essential to the success of this activity.

We discovered that you had to stand really close to each other and sit, not crouch.
Nearly there ... everyone needs to sit back.
We split into two groups. The girls quickly achieved success.
Less than a minute later, the boys made it too. The photo catches the aftermath!
Yeah!! We did it; great listening and a can do attitude won through.
It's tricky to end these things gracefully. Our next step will be to come back up without collapse.

What is a paradigm?

As part of our 'Leader in Me' study we talked about paradigms today. We worked out that a paradigm is the way people see things. When we get extra information we can have a paradigm shift. Ask your child about the cookie story. We looked at this picture to introduce the idea of a paradigm.

Welcome to 2012 in Room 19

I'm glad you found your way to our class blog. Pop here often to view class news, leave comments and read class notices. By putting your email address below 'follow by mail', you will receive an email each time a new post is added to this blog.

Today we shared the picture book; 'Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge' by Julie Vivas. Wilfrid befriends Nancy who lives in the old people's home next door to his house. Nancy has lost her memory. After finding out what a memory is Wilfrid gathers objects about his memories to share with Nancy, which in turn sparks memories for Nancy.

Room 19ers have been asked to bring a couple of memory objects of their own to share with the class. This is just one of the ways we are getting to know each other this week. Select from the following 'memory categories':
  • Something warm
  • Something to make you cry
  • Something to make you laugh
  • Something precious as gold
Your objects will be kept safely in our 'Memories Box' at school for the day, then you can take them home. We look forward to finding out more about you (your child) through your memories.
