Save our Endangered Species

We had a great day at Orana Park and learnt some important lessons on how our actions can help save the creatures we saw.

We learnt some interesting facts about the giraffe's tongue.

Tigers' habitat is being taken over by palm trees. What is the ingredient we need to beware of in the products we buy?
(Leave a post with answer and win bonus coupons!)

There are two things we can do with our cats to protect our native species.
(Leave a post with suggestions and win bonus coupons!)

We were horrified by some of the confiscated products we saw.

When in Asia, take careful note of what is in the products you buy.

Endangered Species Under Construction!

We have had a busy two afternoons, creating patterns and cutting out fabric for our endangered species toys. It has been exciting to watch the deep thinking, persistence, accuracy and creativity. A huge thanks to our team of mums who are making such a difference to the support and smooth running of this project.

Buddy Project

Our buddies are learning about green (blue) screen photography. On Tuesday we helped take photos of them. Next week we'll show them how we use paint.net to delete backgrounds and transport themselves to 'new places'.

Arts Interchange

We have been working on the creation of a collaborative artwork to display at the Cultural Festival. The theme this year is about celebration. We are going with a 'reach for the stars idea', creating 20 pointed 3D stars. Last week we put our triangular pyramids together and today we painted them shades of a colour and added a dot pattern. Can't wait to see the combined construction.

NZ Sign Language

Can you remember what Karyn was saying? Teach your family some of the signs we learnt today; colours, animals, items from around the house, feelings, mother, father, family, children, friend, pet, play, sleep. What else did we learn to say? Leave a comment to explain what you taught someone in your family to sign.

Exploring Endangered Species

Today we started to explore arkive.org, an amazing online resource about andangered species. We discovered there are 7 different (threatened) status levels, can you remember them? This would be a great resource to explore at home, there are stacks of amazing photos and videos.

SPCA Visit

On Wednesday the SPAC spent an hour with us talking about animal rights and how we should care for animals. A lot of what we heard about had links with our Endangered Species topic
The guinea pig was thrilled when carrots were produced from a school lunch box.
