Our buddy class!

We are very happy to be the buddy class of Room 1. Every Tuesday we will be going to Room 1 to meet up with our buddies; to read stories to them, (or they read to us) or we will play games, make things and help them with their work.

A new girl called Olivia is in to Room 1. She is severely allergic to peanuts; so on Tuesdays do NOT give peanuts or peanut-butter to your child in their lunch.
Here are some pictures of us meeting our buddies for the first time and reading to them.

Does this sound like your child?

We have nearly finished our recipes. Photos are being taken and backgrounds are being removed, layout and presentation details are being attended to. Hopefully our recipe book will be able to be printed next week.

Here's a wee taste. Who do you think this is?

 How to make a …
This will make a fun, intelligent and annoying boy which YOU will have to look after.
Ingredients:
32 teeth of smiles
72 crayons of creativity
12.6 miles of tramps
26 jumps of joy
34 revs of an engine
38 fingers of typing
14 mouths of strawberry juice
10 hours of sleep
1 Monday of ‘I don’t want to wake up’

Method:
Draw an orange mixing bowl on paper; this is where you will be mixing. First add 14 mouths of strawberry juice and let it melt; this will stop every thing from sticking. Grab the creativity and warm it to 340 then mix until creamy and add. Take the 10 hours of sleep and sprinkle on a Sunday at 7:31 am exactly! Now bake the 1 Monday of ‘I don’t want to wake up’ on a Monday at 7:07 am in the sun and pour in. Steal 34 revs of a Bugatti Veyron Still warm from a drive and throw in. Add the teeth with peppermint and mix as madly as you can until it’s creamy and green.

Begin with the end in mind.

Today we started looking at the second habit. We had a go at two silent group jigsaw puzzles.

For the first one, we initially had no idea of what we were making.

When we started the second puzzle we had a picture of what the finished puzzle would look like.

We discussed how having an idea / picture / end in mind of where we are heading, helps us to achieve and stay on track.

Softball

We had our first softball session today and everyone enjoyed it, even the cricketers! We learnt how to throw and catch a softball correctly. Lots of 'w's and 'v's.

The girls did a great job of passing four balls across a circle at the same time.

Artwork in progress...

As part of our art unit, looking at how we can be arty with words, we have been looking at Cecilia Russell's work. She created an entire scene using block lettering. We are creating our own pieces, using words of our choice.

These are just a small sample of the artwork being designed ... next step colour.

So Coordinated

I've been very impressed with the physical skills of Room 19. By applying a proactive attitude, which includes great focus, skipping skills are developing fabulously. Today we mastered 'over the moon' jumping, so we can enter the rope no matter which way it is spinning. Next challenge will be the triangle skip. Keep posted.

Ready to save lives.

Today, by surprise, we had first aid training. Each child has been set a challenge to put an adult into the recovery position at home. Once your child has done this, leave a comment on this blog or send a note to school and they will be given their first aid certificate.

Starting with the Man in the Mirror

Today we talked about how our actions and attitude have the defining effect on the direction we take in life and what we get out of experiences. We put this big idea into action by having a go at the 'Cirlce Sit'. Our positive, can-do attitude was essential to the success of this activity.

We discovered that you had to stand really close to each other and sit, not crouch.
Nearly there ... everyone needs to sit back.
We split into two groups. The girls quickly achieved success.
Less than a minute later, the boys made it too. The photo catches the aftermath!
Yeah!! We did it; great listening and a can do attitude won through.
It's tricky to end these things gracefully. Our next step will be to come back up without collapse.

What is a paradigm?

As part of our 'Leader in Me' study we talked about paradigms today. We worked out that a paradigm is the way people see things. When we get extra information we can have a paradigm shift. Ask your child about the cookie story. We looked at this picture to introduce the idea of a paradigm.
